When to start blogging professionally?
by Runt on July 23rd, 2008
Is it wise to put all ones eggs in the blogging basket? I know there are some very successful bloggers, the likes or Darren Rowse and some others who rely completely on income from their blogging efforts. Other successful bloggers diversify into other sectors. John Chow runs an Affiliate network, Jeremy Shoemaker owns a few successful forums and niche sites.
Over the past few months, I have been adding sites to my portfolio. These sites are in various industries and niches that I hope one day will be successful. While I’m not ready to risk going full-time, there will come I time when I hope to do just that.
So once again my question is, at what point would you decide to become a full-time blogger? When your blogging income is enough to live off of? When your blogging income matches your regular salary? When your blogging income exceeds your regular salary?
As with most things in life, there are positives and negatives to take into account. A regular salary is stable while a blogging income would probably fluctuate. On the other hand, your blogging income is not limited and depending on how much you are willing to put into it, could easily reach a very high level.

Make a decision to full time blogger when your income not as much as your offline job it is very hard. But I have already do that after I consider few things.I am crash with my older boss for some principle that I cannot tolerance.
Now I am struggling for 2 months to catch income from blogging as much my offline job.I work almost 16 a day to develop 10 blogs.
Wish mu luck guys. GBU

Difficult choice to make. I don’t think you should rely on blogging only. Get into other forms of marketing, then when you have a decent income you can quit and go into it full-time. You should make enough to cover all the bills and still have some spending money.

I don’t want to rely on my blogging income, so I have created a few niche affiliate sites. Once they start bringing in a constant income, then I will consider taking the leap from part-time to full-time. Right now I have too many bills to risk leaving my full-time job.

Real business comes from forum or social networking site. not blogging.

I think the only can answer that is the blogger himself. If you feel you can make it then go for it.
But for now, let me finished my studies first.

You really need to look at your own life, what one does might not be best for you. Like you said, if you could go full time you could probably make more.
If I was single, or just one income, I’d really need my blogging income to be pretty close if not at least my salary. If you are a 2nd income, then you might be able to take more of a risk.
You would probably want to do what a lot of working moms do when they decide to become stat at home moms. Look at your budget, see what can be cut. Figure out what the very bare minimum of income you need each month. Once you get to that point, you could quit. You also need to factor in gas savings, eating out lunch, work clothes, etc.
I found when I was working, I spent more on gas, more on food & more on clothes, expensive day care costs, etc. I was able to quit by selling on ebay & then my husbands income.

Build up a few other income sources first. If you have 10 web sites earning money, then you don’t have to worry about if 1 stops earning.
